Position Overview:

The Benefits Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Company’s Health and Dental benefits plan in Canada and the United States. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of HRIS systems and will identify and implement Benefits process improvements.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure accurate entry of Benefits data into the HRIS system including regular and ongoing validation
  • Audit benefit premium deductions, investigate and resolve benefit premium discrepancies, ensuring transparent and timely communication to carrier and Payroll.
  • Lead in the design, development and communication of benefits programs
  • Process new hires and terminations and Leaves of Absence in Benefits and process monthly billings and reconciliations.
  • Follow up with employees regarding outstanding or incomplete Benefits information
  • Handle employee inquiries and requests related to benefits and effectively address issues
  • Work with the Benefits carrier and Third-Party Administrator to resolve Benefits administrative inquiries
  • Interpret related Benefit policies and procedures and ensure compliance with government and provincial/state regulations.
  • Support implementation/upgrade projects through regular documentation of current and newly introduced processes
  • Effective recommender of the Benefits plan design and participate in annual carrier negotiations and meetings.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for all aspects of the Benefits programs in Canada and the United States

Qualifications

  • 2+ Years of relevant Canadian/US Benefits experience
  • Working knowledge of Benefit laws in Canada and the United States
  • A university degree in Human Resources or Business Administration plus the completion of relevant professional development work (e.g. certificates that lead to becoming a Certified Employee Benefit Specialist)
  • Certificated Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation is an asset
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Office
  • Excellent organizational and documenting skills with a strong attention to detail
  • Proven written and spoken communication skills

As a result of Covid-19, most of our employees presently work remotely. When required to attend the office, strict safety protocols are in place. We are currently utilizing a virtual hiring process and interview candidates by phone or Zoom/Teams.
