The Business Analyst is responsible for a full range of activities which ensure the operational effectiveness of the department he or she supports. They will design and document workflow and make appropriate recommendations with regards to processes, controls and reporting in order to advance the goals of the department and the Company as a whole. The HR Payroll Systems Business Analyst provides expert-level system support and business analysis expertise to deliver detailed requirements and support delivery related to continuous service improvement, testing, release and incident management.
Duties and Responsibilities
To be successful in this role, the BA duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Day to Day Support:
Act as a Subject Matter Expertise (SME) who collaborates with subject matter experts in HR and Payroll operations to support assigned modules or functional aspects.
Maintain an on-going touchpoint with HR and Payroll end users as well as process owners to support, clarify issues, coach and understand needs.
Project manage approved initiatives including scope, objectives, resourcing and reporting.
Review, analyze and document current business processes as well as identify gaps, business system requirements and user needs.
Develop effective reporting tools for the department including key performance indicators to measure departmental efficiency, if applicable.
Work with Business and IT stakeholders to define, develop and deliver new enhancements, quality assurance and testing procedures. Act as point person for issue logging and resolution from a user perspective
Coordinate and work on the creation and delivery of training.
Use analytics and judgment to identify, prioritize, structure and solve complex problem.
Assist in troubleshooting application issues with the development and vendor QA team.
If applicable, assist in the identification of training and development requirements within the department they are responsible for
Support system enhancements, including configurations and testing in non-production system environment, developing Proof of Concepts.
Provide technical expertise in the development, scoping of roadmap of potential system improvements/functionality; and track, promote and recommend prioritization of each enhancement request.
Release and Incident Management:
In consultation with the HR and Payroll stakeholders, assess release highlights and future state functionality / enhancements against current production state to determine prioritization of new enhancements.
Complete regression testing; and Provide input into stakeholders’ notifications,
Resolve system related issues logged by end-users and actively work with vendors, as required.
Manage Service Request (SR) management processes and activities.
Establish and implement effective requirements practices, such as change control process, etc.
Manage and resolve defect management processes and activities as assigned.
B/A or B/S degree or Post-Secondary education in a related field
3+ years in a Business Analyst role
2+ years active experience working with HR and Payroll Systems.
Hands on experience as on analyst or working in a software development environment.
Business knowledge of the application to be supported.
Standard Query Analytic Tools
Experience working with, supporting, testing and implementing Ceridian HR and payroll modules is preferred
Knowledge of HR practices and policies; payroll processing cycle is required.
Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel), Visio, JIRA, Confluence is preferred
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
