The Retail Sales Supervisor is an inspirational leader of the Management team, whose main responsibilities are to maximize store sales while effectively managing wage costs and to achieve high standards of visual and loss prevention practices. As the leader of exceptional customer service in their store, the Retail Sales Supervisor is responsible for recruiting and ensuring employee development for future succession. The Retail Sales Supervisor achieves these goals by meeting the Company’s 7 Corporate Objectives, adhering to Company policies and procedures and by being a strong and respected role model to all team members.

Duties:

Training, Coaching and Development
• Partnering with the District Manager to ensure all necessary training for the position is completed
• Actively participating in their own training by putting into practice what has been learned
• Providing fair, ongoing and effective training and coaching to all employees so that they can successfully execute their jobs, by using all available training resources to maximum benefit
• Regularly assessing employee performance using available tools and providing constructive feedback on progress and development
• Holding employees accountable through a fair and consistent performance management process
• Counselling and effectively resolving performance issues through effective coaching and the use of Performance Improvement Plans and Development Plans
• Providing training and ensuring compliance with all Company policies (e.g. HR, Administration, Loss Prevention)
• Providing coaching to employees in accordance with the Company’s performance management policies
• Terminating employees when all training and coaching methods have been exhausted and additional termination criteria has been met
• Completing necessary health and safety training and ensuring employees meet and adhere to corporate health and safety policy requirements that contribute to a safe work place

Hiring and Succession Planning:
• Reacting with a sense of urgency to recruitment needs while utilizing all tools available
• Conducting interviews and extending offers of employment, provided new hire criteria is met
• Conducting pre-employment checks on potential hires (e.g. reference checks, credit and criminal checks)
• Ensuring the store is well staffed with skilled and experienced employees who meet Company expectations
• Committing to retaining the best talent by creating an environment where, fair and just management is practiced and employees feel valued and respected
• Ensuring a consistent and strategic commitment to succession planning
• Being committed to internal promotion and employee career pathing

Customer Service Excellence:
• Ensuring all employees are committed to providing exceptional customer service, with the support of current customer service tools
• Ensuring all customers have a memorable and enjoyable shopping experience at all times, by providing friendly and knowledgeable service, including product benefits and features
• Ensuring the store is neat, clean and organized (NCO) at all times, including the stockroom/backroom and washrooms
• Responding appropriately to customer inquiries and concerns and making decisions, whenever possible, in favor of the customer
• Projecting professionalism and Company image by adhering to Company dress code policies

Time Management:
• Effectively utilizing time management skills to meet Company objectives, within set timelines
• Ensuring optimal scheduling is being achieved
• Assigning and distributing duties to employees
• Reviewing and authorizing requested time off
• Reviewing and authorizing employee availability changes

Sales and Wage Cost:
• Ensuring the store meets sales and wage cost objectives, utilizing available resources to maximize business opportunities and responding strategically and promptly to fluctuations in the business
• Ensuring strategic and successful inventory management, including the prompt completion of markdowns

Visual Merchandising:
• Ensuring visual merchandising and marketing directions are implemented as per visual directives, within required timeframes
• Participating in execution of visual launches
• Ensuring effective maintenance of Company visual merchandising standards
• Providing guidance to the visual team in terms of visual execution
• Maintaining a solid understanding of colors, fabrics, trends and designs, including an ability to maximize fashion knowledge

Loss Prevention:
• Assisting in loss prevention training for all employees
• Ensuring loss prevention policies and practices are adhered to, in order to achieve shrink target
• Conducting employee bag checks before and after an employee’s shift
• Notifying the District Loss Prevention Manager of any loss prevention related concerns

Requirements:
• Completion of secondary school is required
• At least one year of experience in retail management is required
• At least six months of experience in retail sales and/or visual merchandising
• Proficient with technology including POS system, and HRIS systems such as Dayforce
• Effective leader
• People person, with strong ability to communicate with customers and employees
• Strong team building skills
• Time management, organizational and multi-tasking ability
• Understanding of the principles of exceptional customer service
• Strong merchandising and presentation skills
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Effective follow up methods
